Project Description

We cleaned and restored an 80-year old roof in Tring, Hertfordshire. This involved replacing roof tiles, repointing, application of fungicide and the final coating, as described below.

Work Description

1. Preparation

Fully clean the roof to remove grime and pollution which has built up over the years

2. Repair

Replace approximately 200 roof tiles and 12 ridge tiles
Repoint hips, ridges and valleys
Apply render to chimney
Hand-paint check lead flashing
Replace three sections of guttering and check for leaks

3. Fungicide

Apply fungicide to the entire roof and leave to dry

4. Roof Coating

Spray on two coats of roof guard coating. As the pictures show, it was a great transformation!

Radlett

Project Description

This Radlett property’s owners were concerned at how quickly the 25 year-old roof tiles were deteriorating. So, we tackled the problem using Thermilate roof coating which has heat-reflecting properties.

Work Description

1. Preparation

Protect plants and bushes with tarpaulins.

2. Cleaning

Thoroughly clean the roof.

3. Repair

Repoint the hips, ridges and verges where required.

4. Fungicide

Apply a fungicide wash and wait until it dries.

5. Roof Coating

We cut in around the edges of the tiles then spray on the first coat of terracotta Thermilate roof coating. Once dry, we apply a second coat to provide a uniform finish.
Paint the lead flashing with lead paint
The end result:

A roof that looks as good as new.

Oakwood

Project Description

The owner of this property in Oakwood was looking for an effective, economical solution for a deteriorating roof and severely cracked walls.

Work Description

1. Restoration and Repair – Roof

Professionally clean roof using a jet washer
Replace slipped and broken tiles, as well as pointing hips and collapsed ridge tile valleys
Apply a fungicide to the roof then spray two coats of Andura roof guard coating (guaranteed 15 years) on the tiles to create the look and feel of a new roof
2. Restoration and Repair – Walls

Remove old and flaking paint, apply fungicide
Remove damaged render, hack out surface cracks and reinstate them with appropriate materials – every care is taken to achieve an invisible repair
3. Masking

Mask up windows, doors and surrounding areas to protect them

4. Bag Rubbing

Brush an SBR (bonding agent) mortar mix called bag rubbing on to the walls to cover imperfections and act as a base for the next stage

5. Primer Coat

Apply Andura Classic Primer to the walls using thick brushes to ensure strong adhesion

6. Final Coat

Spray Andura Classic 21 on the walls to create a great uniform finish and protect the walls for the next 25 years

Buckhurst Hill

Project Description

The roof tiles on this 70 year-old property in Buckhurst Hill are made of concrete with a rough sandy aggregate. Over the years, surface dirt and pollution had built up and moss growth was making the aggregate surface look unsightly.

Work Description

1. Preparation

Protect plants, bushes, drives, pathways and surrounding areas with dustsheets and tarpaulin.

2. Cleaning

Clean roof thoroughly with a jet washer to remove moss and grime.

3. Repair

Replace slipped and cracked tiles; re-point hips, ridges, valleys and verges.

4. Fungicide

Spray fungicide on to roof tile area and allow to dry.

5. Roof Coating

Brush all-weather roof coating in by hand around dormers and tile edges before spraying on two full coats to roof tile area.

6. Finish

Clean out gutters, check seals for leaks and clean and polish soffits, fascias and windows.
